Clergy Training Fund Second Collection (Mandatory) – 10/11 May
The Clergy Training Fund supports our seminarians, including the 11 men currently in formation for the priesthood, for the duration of their six or seven-year journey to ordination. To sustain a seminarian costs around £30,000 each year. Each seminarian brings to his training his own life experience and then participates in a comprehensive programme of formation pastorally, intellectually, humanly and spiritually. These are the men who will baptise and catechise the coming generations, and care for us on our pilgrim way: our generosity today is a legacy to the Church of tomorrow.

The Clergy Assistance Fund
This fund contributes to the work of the Department for Clergy Team, which has four members of staff. The Clergy Support Team is responsible for looking after the welfare, ongoing formation and personal support of our clergy, such as the provision of spiritual direction, counselling, appraisal, ongoing formation and practical advice. It organises retreats, ministerial formation days, courses and sabbaticals. It looks after the junior clergy, the overseas clergy and especially the retired clergy. It is the principal mechanism through which the Bishop looks after the wellbeing of the clergy. St John’s Catholic Cathedral West Window restoration
The total cost of the restoration is expected to be more than £100,000. Along with local parishioners, the wider Diocese who benefit from attending many services such as Confirmations, Ordinations, celebration Mass, visits of Relics etc. at the Cathedral are encouraged to donate any amount, perhaps in memory of a loved one, to help with the cost of the restoration. Cheques may be sent directly to the cathedral or paid into the cathedral parish bank account (CDP St John’s Cathedral; Sort code 30-93-04; Account number 0088 3884). People may also text WINDOW to 70560 to donate £10 to the appeal. Texts cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message, and donors will receive periodic updates on the campaign. To donate without being updated, text WINDOWNOINFO instead.
The names of donors will be recorded in a special commemorative book at the Cathedral.

Ukrainian Appeal
As the dreadful events unfold in Ukraine, we stand in solidarity with our Caritas colleagues, (who work as the Diocese’s outreach organisation) in Caritas-Spes as they continue to assist those vulnerable and in need in Ukraine.
Caritas-Spes had been working in Eastern Ukraine with the displaced families from the ongoing conflict in the disputed territories, including in Avdiivka which has been under heavy shelling.
If you would like to support Caritas work in the emergency in Ukraine, please donate by visiting their website:
You can also help by donating to international charities, like DEC, who are working so hard to raise funds to help the  Ukrainians in this time of crisis:
