The Friendship Lunch Club was started over 30 years ago by a group of parishioners to reach out to people who were bereaved or lived alone by giving them the opportunity to meet each month to share a meal and fellowship. It started in parishioners' homes but as it developed in numbers and scope, it moved to its present home at the church, though it still remains an independent organisation.
The club is run by volunteers. Each month a team prepares a lunch of soup and a pudding. Transport is provided for those who cannot drive and those with mobility problems. The Club is open to anyone regardless of age, gender or circumstances. There is no distinction between the team and our guests. We sit down together as one fellowship.
The club normally runs on the first Monday of every month, though may change due to bank holidays, and there are two events during the year when the club combines with the Chat Club for Christmas dinner and the Strawberry Tea.
Numbers have grown over the years, while the team of volunteers has been shrinking.
The club had to close in 2020 due Covid restrictions but is hoping to reopen soon. Details will be in the newsletter and appear in forthcoming events.
